The wind energy market in Peru is a recent one, implying the existing need for various services related to this technology, including the need for engineering, installation and maintenance services.
Abstract: Energy storage can smooth the power fluctuations of wind power integrated into the grid. Due to the strong adaptability of the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm to non-stationary signals, it is widely used in wind power smoothing control strategies.
These tenders have been successfully implemented by MINEM with four local Peruvian banks providing funding. In 2014, 24 mini-hydro projects have been awarded a PPA for a total installed capacity of 180MW, along with four wind power projects and five solar power projects, for a total installed capacity of 232MW and 96MW respectively.
The publication of Law 1.002 supporting the generation of electricity through renewable energies is a fundamental point in the history of wind energy in Peru. Of the 500 MW that were auctioned off, in accordance with Law 1.002, 100 MW were assigned to wind energy.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), energy demand in Peru is projected to grow at ten per cent annually, propelled primarily by industrial growth. Accordingly, it is estimated that in 2017 total required energy capacity is expected to increase to almost 8GW, which would require significant investment in power generation.
