Few battery data sets are public and even fewer are in a common format, making it difficult to compare data across studies. This article describes the features of Battery Archive, the first public repository for visualization, analysis, and comparison of battery data across institutions.
The raw data from battery cycling studies are typically not shared: previous articles have reported on just a few well-known data sets, some limited to a single cell. Even when raw data are uploaded to an individual research group’s website or a repository like Zenodo, they are not standardized.
Battery-cell classification after cell production might be diversified by extending the current ordinal grading system of battery cells into groups A, B, and C, potentially related to the previously proposed vector-based SOH. Also, the benefits of using data from battery manufacturing beyond cell production have been discussed.
Data from battery operation in the laboratory and real-world applications are used in the context of battery operation. We imagine that data from battery cell production can be used to characterize a battery cell (for more information on the battery production steps consult 52).
Deploying battery state of health (SoH) estimation and forecasting algorithms are critical for ensuring the reliable performance of battery electric vehicles (EVs). SoH algorithms are designed and trained from data collected in the laboratory upon cycling cells under predefined loads and temperatures.
In our previous work 18, 19, we argue that there is a continuous path towards laboratory data closer to real-world battery operation. Real-world battery operation includes idling, external charging, and driving as described in the taxonomy of battery operation in automotive applications in Supplementary Note 3.
