These findings lead to new insights for battery research: (1) that spatial variation in the electric field will lead to SEI non-uniformity and (2) that SEI films normally exhibiting solvent-derived compositions can be engineered to anion-enhanced chemistries to improve battery cycling and corrosion resistance.
