Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) indicate the energy efficiency of dwellings. They are based on data about a building's energy features, like the building materials used, the heating systems, and the insulation. These data are collected by an accredited energy assessor and are used to generate an EPC score, typically ranging from 1 to 100.
They are published in order to involve users and stakeholders in their development and as a means to build in quality at an early stage. These statistics are based on information from Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) lodged on the Energy Performance for Buildings Certificates Register.
The latest data tables on Energy Performance of Buildings Certificates. These tables show data from certificates lodged on the Energy Performance of Buildings Registers since 2008, including average energy efficiency ratings, energy use, carbon dioxide emissions, fuel costs, average floor area sizes and numbers of certificates recorded.
The Energy Performance of Buildings (EPB) regime was introduced in phases from 2007, with the goal of improving the energy efficiency of buildings, reducing their carbon emissions and lessening the impact of climate change. Relevant legislation is the Energy Performance of Buildings (England and Wales) Regulations 2012 (“EPB Regulations”).
These tables show data from certificates lodged on the Energy Performance of Buildings Registers since 2008, including average energy efficiency ratings, energy use, carbon dioxide emissions, fuel costs, average floor area sizes and numbers of certificates recorded. All tables include data by regions.
Rescaling and improving the Energy Performance Certificate (ECP) scheme is an important change introduced by the recast Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD 2024/1275).
