But terminated boost charging or equalizing charging are occasionally included in monitoring routines for valve-regulated lead-acid batteries in order to recoup the full capacity of the negative electrodes . The effect of such boost charges is, of course, only temporary.
Valve-regulated (sometimes referred to as sealed, although it is technically incorrect) lead-acid batteries operate with the principle of gas recombination and immobilized electrolyte. The gases that are produced during normal operation are recombined in the battery reducing water loss.
