The Battery 2030+ roadmap covers different research areas like battery functionality, interfaces, manufacturability, recycling, raw materials and safety. Short-, medium- and long-term goals for progressing towards the vision are also presented.
The roadmap suggests research actions to radically transform the way we discover, develop, and design ultra-high-performance, durable, safe, sustainable, and affordable batteries for use in real applications. This is a collective European research effort to support the urgent need to establish battery cell manufacturing in Europe.
The lithium-ion based facility will be built in Landskrona and connected to the grid by local energy company Landskrona Energi. Axpo will build a 20MW/20MWh lithium-ion based battery storage facility in the south of Sweden, which will become operational in 2024. The project was developed by RES and SCR and acquired by Axpo on 9 March 2023.
Thanks to its chemistry-enabling approach, Battery 2030+ will have an impact not only on current lithium-based battery chemistries, but also on post-lithium batteries, solid-state, silicon, sodium, and other future chemistries.
Mapping and sampling of the Bergby site located an extensive lithium-mineralized surface boulder field. Assay results from 41 boulders shows Li 2 O (lithium oxide) averaged 1.06% and ranged from 0.03% to 4.56%; and Ta 2 O5 (tantalum pentoxide) averaged 168ppm and ranged from 1 ppm to 499 ppm.
