The Battery Box has a CE socket to connect the RV to a 230 V power supply. Inside the Battery Box there is the option to fit several sockets and outlets. Panel thickness : The door can be fitted with panels ranging in thickness from 23 to 40 mm. The Battery Box itself has no limitation to the panel thickness.
The tube out of the forward wall of the battery well is the vent line for the battery. The vent line should be plugged into the battery to act as as a vent tube to expel battery gases out of the trunk area to beneath the car. Don't believe this is the source of your water intrusion.
Having cut the hole in the wall panel, apply sealant between Battery Box and outside wall in order to avoid water ingress. The Battery Box is made of polypropylene (PP), therefore it is important to ensure that the sealant** used is suitable for this material. Thetford recommends Butyl strip (without any solvent) for this purpose.
A battery box is necessary to protect both the battery, and your vehicle. A battery exposed to the elements, say – in the back of a ute – will succumb to the weather very quickly. A battery box will contain acid spills, and prevent impact damage from stray cargo – a mishap which could even short out the battery and cause a fire!
The screws used to fasten the box and both hinges to the panel should be adapted to the thickness of the wall, therefore they are not supplied with the package. Before fitting the Battery Box, both hinges should be placed over the ribs in the Battery Box. When Battery Box is fitted, place metal clamping plate and strip into position.
It comes with a single accessory socket, 2 x USB ports, 2 x 50 Amp connectors, a battery charge indicator; a circuit breaker & fuses for safety. While you can fix these battery boxes in your vehicle just like the more basic model; you can secure them with tie downs - so they can easily be made portable.
