Dutch company LionVolt has taken over battery cell production of Scottish battery manufacturer AMTE Power in Thurso.
“In 2024, the Dutch ecosystem has shown remarkable progress, particularly in the lithium-ion battery market,” said Brundish. LeydenJar, another startup from Eindhoven, is working on silicon anodes that could make lithium-ion batteries hold more charge.
Dutch battery startups must innovate at “critical pinch points” in the supply chain to compete globally, says Kevin Brundish, CEO of Eindhoven-based battery company LionVolt. The comments come at a tough time for Europe’s battery sector, which has been left reeling following the recent collapse of Northvolt.
As global demand for sustainable energy solutions grows, Europe’s battery manufacturing industry is undergoing unprecedented development. It aims to promote Europe’s battery production independence by using renewable energy for sustainable battery manufacturing. The company focuses on lithium-ion battery production and is developing high energy density and long-lasting battery technology.
Back in 2019, the bloc invested a whopping €60bn into domestic EVs and battery production, which undoubtedly helped some of Europe’s most promising startups, such as Northvolt, scale to where they are now.
