An electrode pattern is printed on each dielectric sheet. Input and output terminals are provided on both ends and are connected using the electrode pattern. This structure allows the signal current to pass through the capacitor. The residual inductance on the ground terminal is reduced with ground terminals on both sides.
The electrodes consist of real metal foils or one or double sided metallized plastic films or a combination of these types. Figure 13. High voltage wound capacitor with capacitor elements connected in series In principle, with this type of connection, we exchange parallel electrodes for series connected ones.
Feedthrough capacitors are used by making a mounting hole in the shielding case and soldering the ground electrode directly to the shielding case (plate). Since this type of capacitor has no residual inductance on the ground terminal side as well as on the signal terminal side, it can provide nearly ideal insertion loss characteristics.
Choose Mounting Orientation: Depending on the circuit layout and space constraints, determine the best orientation for mounting the capacitor. It can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or at an angle as per the design requirements.
However, just as the anodic-oxide dielectric insulates the anode foil from the electrolyte, so too the cathode is insulated from the electrolyte by the low voltage air oxide on the cathode foil and the double-layer ionic barrier. This makes the cathode a capacitor in series with the anode.
An electrolitic capacitor does have a + and a - connection. They are NOT called cathode and anode, as they do with diodes. At an opamp you can have a negative powersupply. the - goes to the lower potential (VEE or -V). Thanks bertus.
