Similarly, the capacitor voltage feedback is used to damp series resonance for three-phase buck-type D-CAP in [22, 23], but compensation current feedback is not mentioned to compare.
To cancel the leakage inductance, compensating capacitors are attached in parallel or series to reduce the circulation of high reactive current (Barman et al., 2015; Houran et al., 2018). As a result, for the primary (Tx) coil of the WPT system, the main role of compensation capacitor is to reduce the VA rating of the input source.
Thus, capacitor banks themselves may be affected by reso- nance, and may fail prematurely. This may even lead to plant or feeder shutdowns. Resonance is a condition where the capacitive reactance of a system offsets its inductive reactance, leaving the small resistive elements in the network as the only means of limiting resonant currents.
Compensation current feedback and D-CAP power capacitor voltage feedback have similar effects for series resonance damping, but compensation current feedback has higher utilisation of sensors with less variables in control.
In order to achieve the resonance state, a compensation capacitor could be externally attached in series or parallel on the transmitting (primary) or receiving (secondary) side.
The switching of the shunt capacitor compensator increases the voltage at the receiving end. Thus it improves the power factor and voltage region which saves energy due to reduction of line losses. It also reduces kVA demand which in-turn reduces line current. The schematic connections of shunt capacitor compensation are shown in figure 8.
